Your Intake & Assessment appointment and Guidance appointment date and times are indicated on your Official Letter of Acceptance.
IMPORTANT All new students must arrive a minimum of 48 hours prior to their Intake & Assessment appointment. If you arrive late, the student may be deferred to the following year/semester. Students cannot start school until they have completed their Intake & Assessment appointment.
Intake Appointment
During the Intake, you will meet with International Student staff to confirm that all of your required documents have been provided and completed for registration purposes.
Any student who has a balance owing for their tuition fee must provide payment at this appointment. We will only accept a moneyorder purchased from within Canada. Cash, personal cheques or credit cards will not be accepted.
Required Registration Documents:
- Completed and signed registration package
- Valid Study Permit
- Notarized custodianship documents
- Medical Insurance
- Halton address (where the student will be living)
- All Secondary School Report Cards
- Verification of age (Birth Certificate or Passport)
- Welcome Package Checklist
- Immunization records (Translated into English and notarized)
English & Math Assessment
Following your Intake Appointment, your English (learn more about ESL placement here) and math skills will be assessed by a teacher in a one-on-one consultation. Placement in academic courses at the secondary level will be based on the results of this consultation and your most recent report card. Secondary appointments take approximately 3 – 5 hours and Elementary appointments take approximately 1 – 3 hours. Students will receive breaks as required.
What you need to Bring:
- Proof of immigration status (Study or Visitor Permit)
- All required Registration Documents
- Most recent Report Cards (translated into English)
- Scientific calculator (Secondary only)
- Lunch including water/beverages
Guidance Appointment
Following your Intake & Assessment appointment at Thomas Merton Catholic Secondary School, you (secondary students only) will meet with a Guidance Counsellor to choose your courses. Student Custodians/Parents are also required to attend this important meeting.
Students must bring all of the required registration documents with them to their Guidance appointment. Failure to provide all of the required registration documents may result in a delayed start to school.
